If I have 6 years active duty in the Navy can I join the Coast Guard and go through there Blue 21 program?

Depends.

Your prior service won't help with regard to qualifying for Blue 21. It won't hurt either though. Basically, you still have to meet all the criteria anyone else would. These include being under 31, having a bachelor's degree in an aviation related field from a university with at least 25% minority enrollment, an SAT of at least 1100, a pilot's license helps too.

Keep in mind that Blue 21 is amongst the most desirable (and therefore hardest) programs to qualify for. I just interviewed an OCS candidate with an SAT1 over 1400, a 3.5 GPA in aviation from Purdue (one of the top aviation schools in the country), an Eagle Scout, and already a commercial airline pilot - he didn't qualify for Blue 21 (Purdue minority enrollment not high enough).

If you are already a Navy pilot, Direct Commission Aviator would be a possibility too.

Blue Tang & Their Friends saltwater aquarium

The hit animated film for kids 'Finding Nemo' has made of the already popular Blue Tang one of the most popular saltwater aquarium fish at all. In the film, one of the main characters is a spike of colors, playful and forgetful blue Dory name. Since the release of this film seems like every boy wants his own saltwater aquarium with your own Dory and Nemo and each pair of parents are faced with the decision whether to allow it to have. This film has had an enormous impact on the aquarium because for the first time in the eyes of the general public fish are considered to have a personal.

So what Dory Tang and his other friends in reality?

A Tang is a fish-shaped, which is flat when viewed from the front. The spikes have only a small spine on each side of caudal peduncle (just before the tail) that can be extended if required for self-defense. When Tang is one or more large spines are unable to retire in the same position, which belongs to the family of a surgeon. When these fish fight, he quickly slapped his tail the opponent trying to counter with his spine.

The name of spikes or surgeon is a common name given to many of these fish species closely related. It is commonly accepted that all called Tang Zebrasoma species and all species with spines 2 Surgeon call, while all other species only seem to be called spines Tang or surgeon, depending on who you talk to, for example Tang Blue / Blue Surgeon.

In an aquarium fish spikes are usually very greedy, to accept a wide variety of foods ranging from flakes, granules and seaweed for shrimp and more. These fish are often found grazing on the rocks as one of its main advantages is the control of algae in an aquarium. As they feed on algae from the rocks that are able to graze most of the day, so that most species have not to be fed every day, but some active species, such as lipstick surgeon graze not therefore need to be fed more often. Because these fish are so active, it is important to ensure that they do not lose condition due to lack of food that is common in many reef aquariums.

The spikes can be very aggressive, mainly to its own species or fish in a similar way. As they are territorial, it is important to try to add to your ears in the same aquarium day if possible. In this way have the same opportunities for establishing territories. If you have to add one to a tank Tang set to spike and then it is a good idea to rearrange the rocks in order to disorient the fish set. It is also safer to add more than one blade at a time to divert attention from any would be attackers. These fish often do not do well if kept in pairs in a regularly dominate the other one that are best kept singly or in groups. When you enter one blade to another usually takes about three days to solve their dominance hierarchy before they get along. The greater size, shape and the difference color faster than this will tend to be. There is always a risk when added to an aquarium Tang Spike others, and that may be incompatible and may even kill each other.

The ears are very prone to white spot disease, because their skin and scales. It's a good idea to quarantine these fish the use of medications such as copper sulfate or formalin for a period of about 2-3 weeks before introducing a display tank to reduce the persecution of them spread of the disease to other fish in the tank.

It is highly recommended that you add to spike a tank with a salinity as low as 1.018. This low relief osmotic stress and reduces the risk of infection of white spot. If you have a display tank, it is harmless to corals to the drop in salinity during a period of about a week and slowly raise it again during the next week once the fish have been introduced safely. Corals can not open, so while the salt level is low, but will return to its former glory after the salinity has gradually returned.

Each time these fish are not white spot contract drop in salinity and ensure that food to feed garlic. Most good aquarium stores food reserves high in garlic as New Life Spectrum or flakes Seachem Garlic Guard solutions that can be added to other foods in order to reduce the susceptibility of a fish are parasitic infections such as white spot.

Head and lateral line erosion is another common condition with spikes, which tends to be a problem with fish that have been maintained for many years on a diet Low vitamin. Fish affected by this condition will have what looks like little craters in the head or along the sideline. Increasing the quality and variety of food offered and specifically the amount of vitamin A in the diet can view this reverse condition. It is important to a comprehensive review of water quality and to control what the fish eats if over time you see the status or the color of the fish deteriorate. The fact that a fish feed well in the short term does not mean it is to get what you need in the long term. Always check the condition of the fish in time and remember that there is no substitute for high quality food.

The stems can grow rapidly in an aquarium so it is important to allow adequate space and plenty of hiding places that adults between 15-40cm. Tangs spend much of their time foraging among the rocks and is very strong dart around the aquarium and in particular in and out of the rocks. A good coverage of the rocks is important for these fish to ensure they have a dark place they can escape to feel safe if they are stressed. Having a safe place dark allow fish to be stressed to calm down faster which helps keep your immune system and prevent diseases from developing.

Some of the spikes are popular Blue Tang, Powder Blue Tang, Sailfin Tang, Yellow Tang, Purple Tang, Scopas Brown Tang, Achilles Tang, Kole Tang, surgeon lipstick and Orange Shoulder Tang.

The Paracanthurus hepatus Blue Tang is also known as a Regal Tang and is a common salt water fish found in coral reefs often feed in large schools algae and zooplankton. The blue tang is undoubtedly the most popular species of Tang, bold color and active nature miserably and it is a temptation for all fans. This fish is very widely distributed and is found on many reefs in the world, most often in Australia. It is sweet, fast growing and can reach approximately 30 inches long.

This fish is well known that the choice of sleeping arrangements as they usually get into some of the positions bazaar and look more uncomfortable when you retire for the night, often at the same time each day regardless of whether the light is on or off. Another common behavior this fish is a habit of lying on the bottom of the tank as if he's dead. This is often pointed out to me by the children while I'm working at an aquarium store retail. Children often say "Excuse me sir, there is dead fish" and sure enough whenever the latter is only a practice of Blue Tang is strange habit of rest. With a small tap on the glass, children are happy to see the fish jumping to the expectation of a feed.

Careful consideration should be given before adding this fish as the white point is obtained very easily and therefore is highly recommended to quarantine. A blue spike only should be introduced into a tank with a low level of salt.

Once the fish has been installed in the tank can become a very hardy fish that live will bring you years of enjoyment and family.

The Powder Blue Tang Acanthurus leucosternon a fish is rarely recommended as it is similar to the blue spike but their success rate in an aquarium is even lower. In many respects, is similar to holding a blue stem, but is more susceptible to white spot and die very easily, partly because it is in Australia and therefore imported, which means that it is probably quite stressed by the time it reaches even a store aquarium. It Importantly, only buy fish from a retailer that is safe and only takes in fishing net caught as the fish comes from the Indo-Pacific, where fish catches with cyanide is common.

A big warning for everybody who want to get this fish is that once settled can become very aggressive. Although not grow as fast as a blue spike that can reach up to 25 cm.

The Achilles Tang Acanthurus Achilli is one of the most wanted and asked for spikes. Many people eagerly seek this fish until they discover how difficult it is to get, how expensive it is and how difficult it is to maintain. In many respects such as size and rate survival of this fish is very similar to Powder Blue Tang only bigger, less aggressive and more difficult to maintain.

Its rarity coupled with its low survival rate and high price means that only recommended if high quality and over-sized UV sterilizer runs in the display tank housing this fish. The money saved not having to replace the fish after several attempts to keep it can pay for the best UV units that will benefit people in their entire tank.

The Sailfin Tang Zebrasoma veliferum Tang is a true and a great choice as aquarium fish as it has great colors, easy to maintain and not too expensive, since it is readily available in Australia.

This fish can grow to 40 cm long for enough space should be allowed to grow. To the As with all fish will be his stunted if kept in a small tank.

This fish is very similar to the more expensive and rarer Red Sea Sailfin Tang Zebrasoma desjardinii also a great fish to keep in an aquarium. The darker version of the Red Sea is stronger pattern but not as common nor as robust when first introduced.

It is rare to see a reef tank without Yellow Tang Zebrasoma flavescens, this is because it is a fish wonderful aquarium loves to eat algae. Its striking yellow color is unmistakable, with its bustling, gluttonous personality is a must for any aquarium reef. You may recognize the yellow tang as "bubbles" in the movie Finding Nemo, and its inclusion as a character's popularity has also seen of this increase Tang with the general public. It is common to have children in an aquarium store standing in front of a tank containing a yellow tang calling their parents, "Look, watch your bubbles. "

The yellow spikes more often come from Hawaii and can grow to 18 cm in length, but usually much slower than other species of Tang. The color of this fish can be quite irregular at night but is bright yellow during the day.

This fish tends to be very easy to maintain and often I find my first choice when recommending an ear to any aquarium.

The Brown Scopas rare Tang Zebrasoma Scopas time is expensive and is very good to keep, and it is very strong and has all the same behaviors of the yellow tang but it is a bit more timid. This fish is commonly available in Australia, but not so commonly sold because, as its name suggests, is bold in color, so it is not a fish prized in the hobby. This fish is very good for beginners and has beautiful blue dial if you look up close to the fish.

The Purple Tang Zebrasoma xanthurus is from the Red Sea is very similar the yellow tang but much more expensive, rare and aggressive. Most aquarium stores are lucky to get these fish a few times a year and sells shares very fast because they are easy to care for and a real novelty for many aquarists patient.

If you want to keep an ear yellow with a purple stem worth is worth ensuring that the yellow tang is much greater than the purple as the Purple tend to be more aggressive. Although these fish are commonly held together does not always work, because they are aggressive towards other fish which is a form similar to them. Housing more than one of these fish per tank is not recommended.

This fish is very susceptible the lateral erosion of the head and the line, so it is very important to provide high quality varied diet from the beginning. Although most are stored safely reef tank, this fish tends to be rougher on corals that most spikes. Usually, only one polyp bothers some large species.

It is so rare is the subtle but beautiful Ctenochaetus strigosus Kole Tang also called Yellow Peas bristle teeth. This fish is found throughout the world grows up to 15 cm in length and, although rarely appreciated by beginners, is popular with intermediate fans are willing to pay a little more for a beautiful fish. This Fish is a great addition to most tanks, because it rarely causes problems, eats lots of filamentous algae, gets along well with most fish and is very difficult to maintain.

This fish is a great capture since it is available. Rarely ever heard a bad word about them to anyone.

A large male Naso lituratus Surgeon lipstick can reach 50 cm long whips and has parallels in the top and bottom of the queue so it is a very striking spectacle. This fish is reef safe and are best done in a large aquarium, even do well as a pair, and is rarely aggressive. This fish is often difficult to maintain in the long term because even though this seems to be feeding fish may still die of hunger in time. It is a big fish, active, often consume foods low in nutrients nutrition is the main concern of this fish. When the fish are stressed often will swim erratically and not feed. This power drain is a frequent cause of death to this species. Containing products such as Aloe Vera Stresscoat tend to have a calming effect on these types of fish lines. Any fish swimming erratically instead of hide when they are stressed are always at a disadvantage in an aquarium. In order to keep this fish for a long period of time needed to make sure you're getting enough high quality food, and feed at least twice a day. There is a little more expensive version of Hawaii Blonde, which has a yellow stripe on the top of the fish instead of the normal black.

Rarely, this fish is recommended, although it is a very good sale fish because to its charm. I suggest you make sure the fish is feeding before buying.

Finally, the Acanthurus olivaceus Orange Shoulder Tang is great, common, easy to maintain, Australia Tang smooth and perfect for any aquarium. When the fish is small, has a beautiful orange color, but as it grows increasingly assumed a dull greenish color with orange shoulder. Despite its loss of color, these fish are still selling very well and usually when sold reasonable prices in Australia

There are many fish in the Tang and the family of the surgeon who is worth considering as additions to the tank. The size, strength, aggression, rarity and price are factors to be taken into account in their decision making.
